Angkor Wat really impressed me. The ancient city of Angkor Wat located in the city Siem Reap in Cambodia was founded in the 12th century. The temples were crafted in stone by hand and the engineering was to the highest standards possible.

The modern name Angkor Wat, alternatively Nokor Wat, means “Temple City” or “City of Temples” in Khmer. Angkor (អង្គរ ângkôr) meaning “city” or “capital city”, is a vernacular form of the word nokor (នគរ nôkôr), which comes from the Sanskrit/Pali word nagara (Devanāgarī: नगर). Wat (វត្ត vôtt) is the word for “temple grounds”, also derived from Sanskrit/Pali vāṭa (Devanāgarī: वाट), meaning “enclosure”. (Source: Wikipedia)

In 2018 the site was visited by 2.8 million tourists.

The temple areas are vast and I would recommend everyone to plan what you want to see. From early morning at sunrise the temples are filled up with curious people from all around the world. Crowds everywhere and not easy to get your photo the way you know them from the postcards.

The scale of the temple areas will make most wonder how this was possible with the ancient techniques and tools. Just mindblowing.

I will for sure be back another time and better prepared for what I like to explore.
